What is Chatkode?
Chatkode is a free random chat app for private 1:1 messaging in the browser — end-to-end encrypted. Start with a temporary name and gender (no phone number), Match or Skip, then claim your account within 24 hours. Not a dating app, not groups. See about and random chat.

Do I need to install an app?
No. Chatkode Random Chat runs fully in modern browsers on mobile, tablet, and desktop. There is no app store download required.
Do I need a phone number?
No. Temporary signup only asks for a name and gender — no SMS verification and no contact sync.
How do I start random chat?
Open app.chatkode.com/random, enter a temporary name and gender, then tap Match. Skip anytime for a new partner. A full walkthrough is on the how it works page.
What do Match and Skip do?
Match pairs you with someone online for a private 1:1 chat. Skip ends the current match so you can find someone new. Use Block and Report if a conversation goes wrong.
What is a temporary account?
Random chat starts on a temporary account created with just a name and gender. It expires in 24 hours unless you claim it. Claiming keeps the same user ID so your chats stay linked.
How do I claim my account?
Claim Account before the 24-hour window ends to keep your history. After claiming, you can optionally add friends — random Match/Skip remains the main way to meet people.
Which browsers are supported?
Chatkode works in modern browsers such as current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. For the best experience, keep your browser updated and enable JavaScript.

Is Chatkode end-to-end encrypted?
Yes. Random Match chats are private 1:1 and end-to-end encrypted, with practical controls like app lock, hidden chats, and disappearing messages. Details on our security page.
Is Chatkode anonymous?
Random chat starts with a temporary name — not a phone number — and feels anonymous-style, but Chatkode is not fully anonymous messaging. You can claim an account to keep chats, and every match is private and end-to-end encrypted.
Is Chatkode a dating app?
No. Chatkode is a random chat app for private 1:1 conversations — not a dating board, not groups, and not a connection-request messenger as the main story.
What is app lock?
App lock adds a PIN before anyone can open Chatkode on your device. It can re-lock after idle time. Separate from Hidden chats. App lock guide.
What are hidden chats and the decoy PIN?
Hidden chats tuck selected conversations behind a second PIN. An optional decoy PIN opens an empty decoy inbox instead of your real hidden threads. Decoy applies to the Hidden tab only. Hidden chats guide.
Is Chatkode only for one-to-one chats?
Yes. Chatkode focuses on private one-to-one conversations via Match/Skip — without groups, channels, or public feeds.
Can I delete messages?
Yes. You can manage messages in your conversations, including using one-time or disappearing messages when you want content that does not linger after it is seen. Exact controls are available inside the app.
Does Chatkode offer screenshot protection?
Chatkode offers a soft screenshot-deterrent preference in the UI. It is not OS-level blocking. For stronger discretion, use app lock, hidden chats, and view-once media.
Do I need an email to start?
No email is required to start random chat — only a temporary name and gender. When you claim your account (within 24 hours), you can add email or Google sign-in to keep your chats.
What is the difference between disappearing messages and view-once?
Disappearing timers clear newer messages in a conversation after the period you choose. View-once is for media meant to be opened once. Details on the disappearing messages guide.
What if I forget my app lock or hidden PIN?
Keep your PINs somewhere safe. You can still sign in with your account password to manage settings, but locked content stays protected by the PIN you set. Contact support if you are stuck.
Are there ads? Can I delete my account?
No ads in the chat. Chatkode is free today — see pricing. You can delete your account from Account settings inside the app.
How is Chatkode different from phone-number-based messaging?

Does Chatkode support Google sign-in?
Yes — when Google sign-in is configured for the deployment. You can use it when claiming an account, or register with email and password. Start at app.chatkode.com/random.
What data does Chatkode collect?
We collect account information needed to run the service (such as your username and login details) and limited technical or analytics data to improve reliability. Can I use Chatkode on multiple devices?
Yes. Because Chatkode runs in the browser, after you claim an account you can sign in from a phone, tablet, or desktop and pick up the same private conversation across devices.
Can I add friends after I claim?
Yes — after you claim your account, friends are optional. Random Match/Skip stays the primary way to meet people. See use cases.
